About Mylo

Mylo Freeman was born in The Hague, Holland.(from dutch/american parents) At the moment she lives in Amsterdam with her husband and two children. She attended artschool for about five years(painting) and after that she moved to New York. Lived and worked there for a couple of years and was part of a groupsexhibition at The Drawing center gallery in New York.But eventually homesickness brought her back to Amsterdam! Around this time she started her musical carreer,wich resulted in a cd.However ,the stage did not proove to be artistically satisfying, so she returned to the visual arts. This time Mylo started working for magazines and commercial advertising. But after the birth of her son David (1994) she started to make drawings for children and he became a big inspiration for all the books to come. First published book was Potty! in 1997 to inspire David to give up his diaper and use the potty!This book also won her the Kiekeboekprijs in 1998, it's a prize given out by the national dutch libraries for best toddlerbook of the year.

Mylo Freeman werd in Den Haag geboren. Zij woont en werkt in Amsterdam samen met haar man en twee kinderen.Na het doorlopen van de kunstacademie, is zij naar New York verhuisd om haar amerikaanse 'roots' te ontdekken. Het werken in New York resulteerde oa in een groepsexpositie in 'The Drawingcenter'. Maar uiteindelijk won de heimwee het toch van het avontuur en keerde zij terug naar Amsterdam.

Rond deze tijd begon ook haar muzikale carriere,die als dochter van een jazzmuzikant ook niet uit kon blijven. Ondanks het uitbrengen van een cd verlangde zij toch terug naar haar eerste liefde, het illustratievak. Het begon met werken voor tijdschriften als Viva en Psychologie.Maar pas toen haar zoon David werd geboren viel alles echt op zijn plaats. David gaf haar de inspiratie voor haar eerste boek Potje!Met dit boek won zij meteen de Kiekeboekprijs.Deze prijs wordt uitgereikt door de bibliotheken van het noorden.Sindsdien zijn er al weer vele boeken van Mylo's hand verschenen...
